Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they mean for your site?
If you would like keep some content concealed from the public eye, you are able to enable password protection for a certain folder - either the main Internet site folder or another one below it. Whenever this feature is turned on, a pop-up will appear anytime a person attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login information shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg if you have secured only the domain.com folder. When the credentials are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there's no way to get around this restriction, so you can be sure that nobody shall be able access the secured content. The option can be beneficial in a number of scenarios - if only a number of individuals must be able to see specific files, if you are building a site and you do not want people to see it prior to it being completed, and so forth.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Web Hosting
Creating a password-protected area will take no more than a few mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites in a cloud web hosting account with our company. You shall not have to do anything challenging - you will have to pick a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it must be protected, and then to input the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals need their own login credentials, there shall not be a problem to set up several different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you will always know where this feature is active. If you would like to turn off the protection function for any folder, you can disable it from the exact same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
- Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting
It will require just a few mouse clicks to activate the password protection function for any folder which you have, in case you use one of our Linux semi-dedicated hosting. We have an incredibly effective tool, which has a user-friendly point-and-click interface and which can be used by people without experience. It is included in the Hepsia Control Panel, that you will get to manage your new account and as soon as you log in and check out the Password Protection section, you will be able to choose the domain or subdomain that needs to be secured and then the exact folder - either the main folder or any subfolder under it. You will also see two boxes where you will have to enter the login name and the password that will be necessary to access the folder in question and you will be ready. By following precisely the same steps, you can create a number of login credentials for the very same folder to give several individuals their own username/password. All secured folders shall feature a small padlock sign in the File Manager section. - Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting
