SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail safety system, that is used to verify whether an e-mail message is sent by a certified server. Using SPF protection for a particular domain will stop the faking of emails created with the domain. In simple words: enabling this function for a domain name makes a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that contains the IP addresses of the servers which are permitted to send e-mails from mailboxes under the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Whenever some email message is sent, the first DNS server it uses tests if it comes from an official server. When it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, yet when it does not come from a server listed in the SPF record for the domain, it is discarded. In this way nobody will be able to mask an email address to make it look as if you're sending spam messages. This method is also termed email spoofing.
